I’ve always said two things. Native New Yorkers are a dying breed and New Yorkers are polite. And not just because Gray’s Papaya says it.

A survey came out today by Reader’s Digest or Consumer Reports and Manhattan ranked the politest city over London. um, Yeah. I could have told you that.

I once went on a date with a guy from out of town. He claimed Philadelphia but it was really a town in Jersey somewhere far, far away that I had never heard of but I decided to believe it was in fact in the Garden State.

Long story short, after finding out I was a native New Yorker and still daring to go out with me he confessed he expected an elitest chicky with a ‘tude — absolutely no manners and a “world revolves around me” belief. I think he had been forced to watch Sex and the City with his ex and it gave him the idea all women were like that.

But I’ve always told people that living in Manhattan you do get your door open for you and people do give you the time if you ask or alert you if you drop something while walking and sometimes, just sometimes they’ll you hail a cab for you.

Now if we could only have people work on the “stand up and give your seat on the subway to a pregnant woman” … it would be all good.
