Dessert… Mmmm

So Ashley, my mama and I had the best creme brulee ever. And shared pots of lemon mint tea. What an afternoon. Divine! They were each served in little heart shaped dishes. And Ashley was right… even Amelie would have thought this was the best creme brulee.

Just got home and my sister emailed me to tell me her bestfriend is picking out the cake for her baby shower. (Oh yes, my sister Ari is 35 weeks pregnant and going to have a little boy soon. Her first child, a little girl named Elena, is three and a half. And I don’t think she had a baby shower the first time so “why the heck not?”) Anyway, I guess the search for good desserts is something everyone in my family is interested in. After hearing the ones (carrot cake!!!) her friend was suggesting, I emailed her the link to the Peninsula Grill in South Carolina. They make such delightful coconut cakes. Not delightful… amazing. And this is coming from someone who is not a fan of coconuts at all. :)

But seriously if both Bon Apetit and The New York Times can have very favorable reviews on their “Ultimate Coconut Cake” then I think it should definitely be in the running. Yum!

True Friends… Fake Hair

You know how some people are clearly in a better mood after they eat or after they well.. do stuff… I am clearly in a better mood after I hang out and act so silly with friends.

So you know how I decided to fly out to LA to go my friend Jess’ Suave Soiree (gotta show support right?!) well, after the party today I had some time to act like a real idiot with some other cool chicks that I only really see when they come out to New York.

And now for the part of the story where they knew would end up here.

We (my accomplices were Laine, Tracey and our new partner in crime Beth) stopped off at the world’s most famous WIG store located in Los Angeles. Home to the extensions Paris Hilton pays thousands for and shuts down the store in order to shop in peace (or by piece… hee hee) and home to the tresses Angelina Jolie is clearly wearing in her new flick about Daniel Pearl (so sad that whole story).

So I sit and watch as the other ladies get gorgeous new ‘dos which honestly I couldn’t tell where fake. And then the owner turns to me and asks what I would like to try. Yeah, because two television stations telling me my hair is too long as it is and their encouragement for me to get the newslady hairdo should definitely be ignored. I even recently cut my hair in order to make it less of an issue but somehow adding a few inches didn’t seem like a smart idea so I just watched and laughed at the new ladies who looked stunning and were all going home to spice up things with their hubbies with their new hair and our new pink lace thongs…. But that’s a whole other story my dears….

You too can get your wig on…

Sitting … and Waiting… And Stuffing My Face.

For a cellular company who claims it has the “least dropped calls”, I would expect them to be able to just let me get my calls. After flying five and a half hours today, I get to the Four Seasons bright and early and ready to see friends for lunch and publicists for tea, and what do I get? Not a single call. Not a one.

So of course what do I do? I walk (yes, I said walk… I didn’t need the hotel to drive me around like they offered 50 million times) to Gearys which does nothing besides depress me because my days of $2,000 place settings are gone now that I have two amazingly adorable and sweet kids. (Sorry, I had to remind myself for sec…. lol)

Pass by Spago … Mmmmm yummy salad and soup. (Oh my, I’ve turned Spago into the Olive Garden…not my intention) and then back to the hotel where I watch (ok seriously, just glance up a few times as I read about food in Los Angeles magazine.. clearly people, I have a problem.) reruns of CHARMED … of all shows. No I’m not kidding and I saw this actor from one of the episodes today at The Cheesecake Factory (it’s across from Gearys) which I haven’t been to since I went with Roman and met his best friend for the first time (yes we are talking years) and I ate all his vegetables off the guy’s plate - without asking! (But then again, how do you ask someone you don’t know… can I eat those green beans you aren’t touching?)

So the actor - Ivan Sergei - who was on Jack & Jill with Amanda Peet (so why didn’t his career take off after the show flopped?!) was with his agent or his best friend’s aunt who could have been a real estate agent… Clearly not a date. And he dressed so well…. I wonder where he got that suit.

Anyway back at the hotel.. still no calls. None. No lunches… No teas. Nothing. Until I wake in the morning and figure out these people aren’t all busy that much and hear 144 messages of “where are you? Thought your plane landed at 10. checking in about lunch, etc.” Mostly from my “frantic Jewish mother” Laine - love her! So funny. But Jess, Tracey and half of LA who knew I was coming into town also called. I feel special again…. And then I look at the room service table still in my room because I devoured one side of the entire in room dining menu during the night in my moment of depression where I felt no one loved me enough to have an omlette with me.

I am loved. But now I have a stomach the size of Kansas because I ate like a piglet and didn’t care that I brought a 10 year old (pre-children) dress which wasn’t forgiving to wear to the party. Ah who cares… that soup, salad, crème brulee and guacamole was fabulous. And after washing it down with Pellegrino and peppermint tea, it can’t be all that bad for me. (I’ll just keep telling myself that while you check out their in room dining menu and see if you wouldnt have done the same.)
