Floyd the Barber

For the first 14 months of his life .. Luke went hair cut free.

He walked around like a mini Albert Einstein. Everyone commented about his curls, the height, the color.

Then the day he turned 14 months old - Snip, snip went mommy’s scissors.  Just in time for his sister’s birthday party.

Perfectly neat on all sides.   I was proud of myself. I hadn’t used a bowl or a guide of any kind and I managed to get a thumbs up from everyone who saw the new ‘do.
My little boy was growing up. And luckily no comparisons between Luke and Kate Hudson’s son were ever made.

Then again at 18 months.  Snip, snip, snip went the scissors some more.

At 22 months, he let me cut one side and a part of the top of his head of hair but then got very annoyed.

My mother suggested we take him for his professional haircut on his second birthday so they could even everything out.

So today, at one day before his second birthday, Luke sat in a red toy Jeep hair cutting stool, didn’t complain as the cape was placed around him and sat for his first professional hair cut while he watched the Elmo DVD the barber plugged in.

His talked about curls were cut off as he sat.   And I nervously watched as the hair stylist’s scissors snipped lower and lower in length.

At one point she asked if I wanted the buzz cutter to be used.  Oh no, I quickly responded.

Shortly after that, the scissors had done their job and Luke was dipping his hand into a pail of lollipops.

We left the children’s hair salon $40 lighter but armed with a celebratory balloon and certificate of his first hair cut to proudly display.

And of course a photo to remember the day he graduated from haircuts by mommy …
