Oscar Nominees – Blanchett, Depp, Affleck Nominated

I just watched the 80th Academy Award nominations for the 2007 Oscar nominees.

They were live from Los Angeles (at 5:30 AM PST) so I’m sure the phones are ringing throughout California and waking up some actors too tired to wake this early.

None of the films the Academy President or Kathy Bates (why was she announcing or even in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater!?!) were really surprising.

Some may say the Academy Awards are stuffy and the Golden Globes are the fun awards show.

Sure the Golden Globes are fun but when you think of Hollywood glamour it’s always been the Academy Awards that comes to mind for me.

And this year, several actor parents are nominated -

Casey Affleck (dad of two) for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in the best supporting actor category.

Cate Blanchett (mom of two, expecting baby #3 in April) for Elizabeth- The Golden Age and for I’m Not There. in the best supporting actress category.

Johnny Depp (dad of two) for Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in the best actor category.

Ruby Dee (mom of three) for American Gangster in the best actress category.

Tilda Swinton (mom of two) for Michael Clayton in the best actress category.

And even Paul Thomas Anderson (dad of Pearl with Maya Rudolph) received a nomination for There Will Be Blood as best director.

Congrats to all of them.

I’ll be watching the Academy Awards on February 24th to which of these cool parents get an Oscar.
