Paging Wednesday

There’s a summer camp Pow Wow in the suburbs waiting for you.

What two grown suburban Long Island men do in 91 degree weather.

The kids don’t seem to mind.

Yeah, that’s fire. Good lord, why am I the only one even the slightest bit uncomfortable by this little activity?

I’m this close

Six years have gone by since the last time I went on my last real actual true vacation.

There’s a strong possibility I will be able to take my first vacation in six years at the end of next month.

For five days. But I’m not complaining. I’m excited.

So excited I just have to talk about it.

Just have to write it down.

Because if I do that, I can actually see that this vacation really is a possibility.

But I’m nervous that it won’t happen.

And then I’ll have to wait until the end of next summer.

To try and plan a vacation seven years in the making.

Imagine.

My first non work related trip in six years.

I am so very excited.

And really hoping that it happens.

My Big Fat mouth can’t wait until Tuesday when I know for sure.

I had to talk about it now.

Nooooooooooow.

Before I knew I would definitely be traveling 11 hours by plane for just a few days.

That’s so me.

Did I mention I am excited?

And I know the kids will be too.

Yup. Taking three kids – five years and under, a few time zones away for a less than a week.

And I can’t hardly wait.

Summer Nights

Thursday night the kids had dinner in Steppingstone Park with their Grandma Jenny.

She came prepared and brought a soccer ball (that unfortunately Harrison was scared of!), beach ball, balloons and bubbles.

What else could a kid want!?

Then to sweeten the evening, they had the chance to run across a stage with neighborhood kids …

The chance to toss rocks in the stinky Long Island Sound …

And a chance to be outside for the sunset (7 pm is their usual bedtime! Except Harrison, he’s got a standing appointment with 6:30 PM)

The Big Five

Natalie’s birthday festivities have finally wound down today after starting the day before her actual birthday.

It was like Oprah’s birthday weekend. Except Natalie turned five not fifty.

This all started when I told Natalie she could play hookie from day camp on Friday.

Missing camp is not something she’s interested in.

Which is a good thing. Believe me.

Promised her she’d have afternoon tea with her good friend.

It was my plan to take her to see Miley Cyrus since she’s been bitten by the Hannah Montana bug thanks to a classmate of hers.

But I didn’t tell her. It was supposed to be a surprise.

The day should have started with us at the Miley Cyrus GMA concert in Bryant Park but when I woke up early I saw this crowdCommon sense said… stay away.

So instead she woke up and watched it on the living room TV as she ate breakfast.

Not a birthday breakfast. Just a plain old ordinary breakfast.

Then I went to work. Had to. And then ran late.

So her dad brought her to her surprise lunch with both of her grandmothers and an uncle!

But he forgot to comb or brush her hair. Oh my!

We sang Happy Birthday for the first time. She declared she was now six.

Nat’s going through a marshmallow stage so the campfire cupcake from Big Daddy’s was a big hit.

Then back to the house to comb her hair and then take her to American Girl Place for afternoon tea.

The girls did a race to see who could drink their pink lemonade faster. Very lady like I think.

And then they made plans to have a play date next weekend.

The next morning Luke and Nat headed off to gardening class and then visited my grandmother.

Soon after we were on the road to Montauk and enjoying birthday cake ice cream and Pez on her real birthday!

And today, her camp counselor helped celebrate her birthday again with the 20 girls in her group.

Look at the fun birthday hat they gave her.

Happy Birthday Natalie. Savvy Mommy started all because of you!
