Staycations

If everyone was opting to do a staycation because of the economy, the rising price of gas this summer or the additional fees associated with flying then why were the roads packed, the hotel rooms sold out and the attractions full of families, couples, seniors?

Sometimes buzz words like Staycations are just annoying and not really a huge trend – more like an excuse. There I said it. There’s simply no need for a staycation when it was just a one tank trip for us to go away this weekend. I even noticed some hotels offering gas cards if you drive to them or cash if you take the train to that destination.

The Fourth of July weekend getaway I finally decided on was an amazing idea. And when we left our apartment, Manhattan was pretty empty. A few other Manhattan residents probably came up with a few amazing travel ideas of their own. That, or they went to the Hamptons or the Shore. I’ve just outgrown both scenes so I checked a few kid friendly summer vacation spots and then got in the car and headed to New England.

There’s simply no need for a staycation when it was just a one tank trip for us to go away this weekend. Not only have I become a lobster roll expert (could have never performed that scientific study in Manhattan!) but the kids have some memories that will have them asking to go back again soon.

Before you decide to be lame and keep your kids home the entire summer because you would rather opt for a staycation than spend a tank of gas on a real summer vacation full of lasting memories, email me. I’ve done enough research and have gotten enough press releases to be able to share family friendly summer travel destinations with everyone.

Does it count as a vacation if they watch the movie “Vacation”?

hi Victoria… no staycation here, i’m certainly not going to decorate the house like hawaii and call it good. we’ll be traveling from sw washington (the state) to Lake Tahoe (where calif makes that big angle mid state)… about a full 11 hour drive (if you don’t stop once and well, throw in 2 kids and a coffee drinkin’ mama and you’re talkin’ at least 14 hours).

i wanted to share my survival tips from my lifestyle segment here in portland, or. http://tinyurl.com/5nvak9 i’ll be doing a series of posts as well to get down to the nitty gritty.

    bon voyage!
