August 2008 Archives

I know Back to School is a big time of year for retailers but pissing off the parents isn’t going to help JC Penney sell clothes.

Unless the parent is eighteen years old, and has no idea the commercial is a pathetic attempt at an homage to The Breakfast Club

There’s nostalgia and then there’s stupidity on the part of the ad agency. Some things should be left alone even when the main focus is for families to “Get that Look”

If they need an example of a commercial that gets it right, here’s one starring the former Doogie Howser, MD himself,  Neil Patrick Harris –

It’s so successful, I almost forgot I didn’t have man parts and considered buying Old Spice. OK, not really. But still.

Monday was my turn to bring snack to Luke’s camp.

I was asked to bring animal crackers and peaches.

Over the weekend I forgot to pick them up. Of course.

I ran out to get them on Monday morning feeling like the lame forgetful mother I was.

8 peaches later I was at the checkout ready to deliver the goods.

But not before paying $14.40.

Nope, that wasn’t for the fruit and the animal crackers. Just the peaches.

Lately I’ve found myself now going to the grocery store, forking over $70 only to have one bag to show for it.

There’s no brie or foie gras in that bag either.

And everyone knows that filling up at the gas station is never a painless experience.

My buddy Alan may have not declared this to be a recession but there’s certainly something up.

So when Kristen Chase decided to declare August Blog the Recession month I had to participate.

The plan is to click through everyone in your feed reader and help them out by increasing their page views.

With inflation happening around us, not to mention the jobs being lost, every little bit helps.

And while you should be doing this from the kindness of your own heart, Kristen’s gathered some great prizes for those participating.

Since sending wine across state lines is a bit tricky, my prize donation is a $50 gift card for wine (or wine glasses or a basket of Godiva chocolates if you prefer) from Wine.com.

Yup, I went right over to the website and bought a gift card that will help the winner booze it up in some way during this time that is “not a recession”. You know, because every little bit helps. ;)
