How You Know You Are Too Old to Watch Another MTV VMAs Show

  1. The names Kennedy, Duff and Adam Curry are in your memory.
  2. You ask “Kim who? Tim who? Jim who?” throughout the VMA Opening Act.
  3. Thoughts of Britney having a comeback are your main concern.
  4. Demi Moore walked on stage. And you knew it was Demi Moore who walked on stage.
  5. You start mocking the commercials – Look MTV is doing “COPS” 20 years later!

  6. The highlight of your night is hoping Lil Wayne trips down the stairs while he acts a fool.
  7. Even Obama shout outs and Sarah Pallin jabs are getting on your nerves.
  8. LL Cool J talking about lingerie is a high point of the long winded show.
  9. Slash shows up and you ask “Where’s Axl? Are they getting back together yet?”
  10. Hearing Miley Cyrus would be singing a Bon Jovi classic garnered a grown.

  11. You keep asking who Russell Brand is because you didn’t see Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
  12. You remember Sweet Home Alabama being performed live years ago and it wasn’t with Kid Rock or Lil Wayne.
  13. Back in the day when Eddie Murphy hosted, his schtick didn’t make you wanna fall asleep.
  14. The much hyped Kanye West show close out was worth waiting around for like waiting for old stale nachos.

You promptly changed the channel the minute the Entourage season premiere starts.

School’s Back No more Summer

The new super spectacular shoes bought for her first day of Kindergarten may have been a tad too big.

But a quick wardrobe change to a pair of shoes she wore last school year did the trick.

And then we were off… to sit in traffic… for minutes… minutes past the time we were to be there.

But no worries… because the gates were still closed 10 minutes after we arrived.

Parents crowded around. Waiting.

Taking photos.

Then walking.

Walked into the cafeteria and she lost her voice.

Shy. Yes, Natalie. Didn’t even say her name.

Shy when she went into her classroom and had to choose a table to sit at and color.

I left her to get to know everyone before I had to be asked to leave.

Like the parent who came with a professional photographer. Or the videographer.

Didn’t forget my boys also had a good first day. New shoes. Trip to the park. What else could they want?

School’s officially back in session for everyone.

I see a lot of organizing in my future because my schedule has gotten pretty busy. And that’s before the play date requests come in.

Blame Twitter

Instead of writing a blog post I smile at every time I read, I’ve been posting less.

And using Twitter (@nominivan) more.

My daily life has been reduced to 140 characters glimpses in the form of tweets.

I could have written the requisite blog post about Michael Phelps winning eight gold medals or a Baby Mama movie review.

But instead I twittered.

I’ve been Twittering about everything – giving everyone my two cents.

Cheering them on when they need it most. Laughing when they talk about hanging out with Jamie Foxx. Giving support when people are jerks. Sharing concern for those evacuating because of Gustav.

And sometimes just twittering when I have a random Jason Mraz song stuck in my head.

Or my thoughts on whether Sarah Palin really had a baby or if Trig is really her grandson.

Or the fact I am giving away so many of my personal belongings in order to get a new start this school year.

Or the hilarious that ensued while walking 11 blocks to my Mother’s birthday dinner yesterday.  (3 kids, 1 ginormous purse and a birthday gift in a big box… you can figure out the rest.)

And that’s when I’m not spending time participating in the Sarah Palin Little Known Facts meme.

I have a feeling I’m not alone.

So if you miss the stories and photos of my sons and daughter, blame Twitter.

Or follow me so you can hear about the time I waited until the very last minute to pack up and go away for Labor Day weekend so the weekend became Labor Day day and pretty much only Labor Day afternoon since I’ve spent most of the weekend cleaning the apartment and laughing at what was listed on my Summer to-do list.  But you probably already knew that — you follow me on Twitter. ;)
