The Many Faces of Luke

If there’s something to say, there’s a face for it with my son.

Over time you learn his many faces.

But usually you don’t see them all in a two minute period.

“Why won’t the big kids let the little kids play on the jungle gym?!”

“And that little boy won’t share his monster truck.”

“I’m confused. Why does that little girl have spray paint on her hair?”

“I don’t want to sit down on the bench while the other kids play”

“I want to play too!”

“I’m going to be grumpy until you find something for me to play with”

“Oh look mama, a space opened up on jungle gym.”

Wake Up Wake Up

Last year around this time I woke up.

No really I woke up from a very stale way of thinking.

There was so much going on and I was filling my days with things I realize now didn’t matter.

I actually woke up one morning thinking I needed a change.

I needed to shake things up.

I was tired of my life as it was – the life I was supposed to live.

I got up and decided to take the road less traveled. Once again.

Yes, I had done that before but this time with three children it would be different.

I moved.

Not to Malibu.

Cross town.

Which can be like moving to Malibu from Kansas.

All my life the Upper West Side was my stomping ground.

Even the years I was away for school or was stuck in suburbia.

Last December, I became an Upper East Side mom on paper but not in thinking.

Since I couldn’t find the perfect apartment (no one moves in December!!!) I decided to rent for the year.

I received my lease renewal a few weeks ago. And I renewed it for another year.

So I can spend the next few months looking for the perfect place for us.

I woke up last year and decided to take my time to enjoy life.

The way I want. The way that brings my children amazing memories.

It was a great decision for me to make.

Over the last few months, I’ve been working on a new project.

One that only feels right doing this time in my life.

And soon I’ll be able to share it.

Here’s to waking up to your dream. J

If you ever wondered out loud what’s coming on television because you are too lazy to get the remote to see what you’ve set to tape on your DVR (and what TiVo has decided to tape for you) – make sure your children aren’t in earshot.

Because if they are it will go something like this –

N: Mama, Wizards of Waverly Place comes on on the weekends.

L: I Spy comes on Saturdays.

N: New Hannah Montana comes on on Sunday nights at Eight. Past my bedtime.

L: Mama, can I watch Chicken Little?

N: No, no that’s on later.

L: Can I watch Noggin… pleeeeeease (complete with pouty face that always wins me over.)

N: I don’t want to watch Noggin!

N: Mama, when are you going to be on Noggin.

L: I want Sportacus.

N: It’s called LazyTown.

L: Mama, can I watch LazyTown, plllllllllllease.

Mama: Blue’s Clues it is.

You would think the TV was on 24/7 on the TV Guide channel in my house the way they knew when their shows (or shows they know exist) come on.
