My spouse and I recently took a couple we know away on a weekend vacation as a wedding gift for their wedding which occurred this past summer. We were mortified when we walked into our room and it had not even been touched by the cleaning staff. Beds were unmaid, garbage was littered about (including a roll of toilet paper strewn about the room), and empty liquor boxes were piled up. Luckily, the couple we had brought received a clean (and very nice) room. The staff members we encountered were very polite, and quickly provided us with a new room.

I was still grossed out, however, at the mere thought -- if they hadn't even cleaned that room, had my sheets been changed? Was it all as clean as it appeared? I will certainly not be revisiting that hotel.

It was actually my first hotel visit EVER which was not exceptional, I have been spoiled.

Years ago, my aunt came to visit and stayed in a horrid room in the Tenderloin part of San Francisco. Her room looked better than that. And she paid $15 a night for it. Hair not included.
