I went into Forbidden Planet today (for the first time) with my guy  so he could pick up a volume he was interested in.

Although the only comic book/graphic novel I read before last week’s Pride of Baghdad (an IGN pick my guy owns) was Archie — you know how crazy those supermarket double digests can get — I thought looking around would be a good idea since we are celebrating Luke’s fifth birthday this Friday.

Aisles of comics next to aisles of action figures. Star Wars and Dr. Who action figures … Mr. Potato Head with Iron Man masks and Snoopy toy sets. But I didn’t hit the jackpot until I went to the far side of the store.

Check out these snazzy birthday gift options for my boy.

jesus action figure

A deluxe Jesus action figure — Luke could spend hours in his room reenacting the miracle of turning water into wine. Oh wait, that might be a little too early for him to practice.

moses action figure

Maybe a Moses action figure would be better. After all, he was given the Ten Commandments and parted the Red Sea.

What? Five year olds don’t care for religious action figures?

evolving darwin playset

Then I suppose an Evolving Darwin play set might do the trick for Luke. Because I can totally see him enjoying the story of evolution in action figure form.

Alright so I didn’t find a gift for Luke but I did find a little something for me — a crazy cat lady action figure… complete with six feline companions.
