My toddler only likes the cream in Oreo cookies. Every time he asks for an Oreo he licks the cream off and tosses the actual cookie part.
I’ve started twisting the cookie and taking the top off putting them aside for when I make Cup of Dirt dessert for all four of my children.
I don’t know about you but when I was a little girl I loved playing in the dirt. It was fun to use sticks to dig for earthworms and then shriek when I saw them peek through the soil. They were so slimey.
So that is why this simple, kid friendly recipe for a cup of dirt is not only great for all of us who like to have our kids in the kitchen with us but it’s a fun indoor activity replicating what some kids do outdoors!
Here’s what you need to make Cup of Dirt dessert –
The last time we were at our local CVS pharmacy I also picked up Gold Emblem gummy worms. You can’t have a cup of dirt without worms. And the Gold Emblem gummy worms are cute!
For underneath the dirt, I used chocolate fudge pudding mix. There are so many types out there, it is easy to find one that fits your preference. I use the microwave directions off the box so that it is easy for my children of various ages to help me with this recipe.
One box makes four cups so if you are making this for a party or playdate you should keep that in mind when picking up ingredients.
Once I took the chocolate pudding out of the microwave, we scooped it into four cups.
To make the dirt to go on top of the chocolate pudding, I crumbled Oreo cookies without the cream in a snack size baggie.
Of course a Cup of Dirt wouldn’t be right without worms. In the past I have bought small sized gummy worms but they didn’t have any at my CVS pharmacy. I cut the gummy worms I had in half placing them in different parts of the cup.
How could you not love a smiley gummy worm!? This recipe is such fun from start to finish. Both for my four children and for me.
After all four cups of dessert were assembled, I put them in the fridge for an hour to cool off. When my children have this dessert, they are always happy. It combines three kid favorite treats — chocolate pudding, cookies, and gummy candy!
I can’t wait until spring finally arrives. Getting to play in the dirt again — instead of walking around piles of snow that haven’t melted yet — will be fun. Until then, here is my easy spring inspired recipe for kids!
