After seeing the movie trailer this summer, I considered seeing Killers in the theater but someone wanted to see other movies every weekend it was in the theater so I ended up having to wait until DVD to see Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher team up.

To be honest, I didn’t miss out not seeing Killers at the movies but saying that doesn’t mean I didn’t find the film to be entertaining at times. It’s the unbelievable parts that had me shaking my head.

Here’s what you need to know:

Jen (played by Grey’s Anatomy lead and Knocked Up/The Ugly Truth star Katherine Heigl) is a daughter vacationing in the French Riviera with her overprotective parents (played by Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara) after recently becoming single. She strays from her parents after faking a bout of stomach flu and meets Spencer (played by Ashton Kutcher), the man of her dreams. Cut to years later when she is now living in Atlanta with her new hubby, yep, Spencer.

Spencer has supposedly given up his life as a contract killer since meeting Jen and now works in an architectural firm. But one day his former boss, Holbrook, comes calling in the form of a “can’t ignore” postcard.

After finding out her husband’s past, Jen becomes his sidekick in order to stay alive because it seems every where they turn someone is trying to grab the $20 Million bounty placed on Spencer’s head.

The movie was fun at times. And watching scenes of Nice when you can’t be there on a weekend getaway is a sure delight. Sadly even if this suburban newlywed couple only kills bad guys, their hi-jinks and the situations they find themselves in with unexpected characters seem a bit far fetched more times than not.

If you *heart* Ashton, his shirtless scenes will help you through Killers. If that doesn’t do the trick, the scenes of Tom Selleck as a skeptical father and Catherine O’Hara as a convincing drunk and oblivious mother are pretty enjoyable.

I didn’t see The Back-Up Plan at the movies so I watched it the other night with my guy who initially thought I was joking when I suggested we spend our time before bed watching a J.Lo movie.

After reminding him about the awful movies I have willing watched because he wanted to see them (uh hem, The Bounty Hunter), we both sat down and watched The Back-Up Plan.

Here’s what you need to know:

Zoe (played by singer, actress, former Fly Girl and one half of the now defunct original Bennifer couple, Jennifer Lopez) is the Hudson Mutts pet shop owner who decides its time to get artificially inseminated because the right guy isn’t showing up.

But wouldn’t you know; that very same afternoon Stan (played by Alex O’Loughlin of CBS’ short lived vampire as a private investigator show Moonlight) comes into her rained soaked – freshly inseminated – life causing a few complications. One of the highlights in The Back-Up Plan are the scenes with comedian Robert Klein, Zoe’s fertility clinic doctor who provides comedy during Zoe’s obstetric exams.

Some silliness and misunderstandings occur after Zoe finds out she is pregnant but since Stan is a lovable cheese making/farmers market guy and Zoe is eventually charmed by it, this movie is more than watchable whether its just you and a plate of artisanal cheese or you’ve roped your guy into watching it as well.

After seeing this movie at home, depending on what was out the weekend it was released, I would have considered seeing The Back-Up Plan in the theater — even if I wasn’t able to watch it during matinee pricing time.

Oh and as for my guy, he was thoroughly caught up in this movie. See… it pays to take a chance on a movie.
