After leaving Blue Water Grill the other night, I saw Michael Musto and former Village Voice columnist Lynn Yaeger (who has interviewed me) walking into Coffee Shop.

Michael left his bike on the corner.

Looking at it on the corner got me thinking …

Michael gets around the city on his bike all the time — I’ve seen him mostly around Union Square — and I’m not even able to ride a bike ten feet away.

I think it’s time for me to learn how to ride a bike.

Growing up, I had a Strawberry shortcake tricycle complete with a basket and streamers but I never got a bike with training wheels.

Does anyone know where an adult goes to learn how to ride a bike?

Do you just buy a bike and then ask someone to teach you?

Having three sons and a daughter, I sometimes feel outnumbered by the number of Y chromosomes in the house. I’m pretty sure at times Miss Nat does as well.

That’s why I always make it a point to spend quality one on one time with her.

When she was little, taking her to an event at FAO or even just stopping for a cookie after school at our favorite bakery was loved because it was time with just me.

But now, at age eight, finding something for just us girls to do that she’ll also feel is interesting is a bit harder. I find myself taking her with me on errands more than the “fun things” eight year olds would rather be doing.

I took her with me the other day to get a manicure and pedicure.

She’s been getting manicures since she was four. The first time was at a classmate’s birthday party.

I figured this time she’d be thrilled to have her first pedicure.

Sadly she informed me this would be her second pedicure. Her first pedicure happened at a classmate’s birthday party.

There went my perfect Mommy and Me moment.

It may have not been something she’s never done before but it was definitely some one on one time together. And I think it was appreciated.

Last week Sean and I took Fox to the American Museum of Natural History (before the museum opened to the public) to participate in a field trip hosted by Kleenex.

Since the museum is on the Upper West Side — my childhood stomping ground — I’ve been visiting for years. And this field trip marked Fox’s second visit to the American Museum of Natural History. (It’s never too early for a little culture!)

Many families aren’t as lucky and rely solely on school field trips so their children can visit cultural institutions. Which is where Kleenex comes in! For the 2011 – 2012 school year, Kleenex is committing $500,000 to their Kleenex Save the Field Trips Initiative that helps fund school field trips as part of educational curriculum.

We met the curator of the museum and took a tour. Last time we visited the museum with the kids, we concentrated mostly on the dinosaurs and the Dinosaur exhibit that was about to open. While we saw the dinosaurs again, this time we focused on the Frogs exhibit.

Despite being at the museum before we had never seen a feeding in the Frogs exhibit. Those tongues are fast!

Some of the frogs were quite beautiful, while others looked like something I wouldn’t want the kidlets to touch.

Even six month old Fox showed interest in the frogs.

As a child, I went on field trips every year in school. And my children go on several field trips a year with their school. But not every child is that fortunate. Take a minute and head over to Facebook and nominate a school in the Kleenex Field Trips Sweepstakes to win $5,000 in field trip funding. It’ll make a lot of children happy.

Disclosure: I was compensated for participating in Kleenex Field Trips a sponsored campaign coordinated by The Motherhood.

One of the best things about shopping online is that new shops can literally open overnight or a friend can share a website you’ve never heard of before.

I got the chance to check out My Baby Clothes and pick out a complimentary outfit for my youngest.

I chose a one piece romper in light blue gingham.

Although he isn’t old enough to walk around it, I thought it was a great way to have him dressed in something besides a one piece shirt and shorts while out.

The romper had a “dress” collar and buttoned up making it seem like a fancier day option for him.

While looking at it online, I didn’t realize the material would be as thick as it was but it was still appropriate for August weather.

All in all, My Baby Clothes has a large offering of clothing for boys (not just girls) so moms of boys who feel frustrated they can rarely find clothing for their sons should definitely bookmark their website for to check out their latest options.

Find My Baby Clothes on Twitter and Facebook.
