After an editor’s preview last week I headed over to the 38th Street and 10th Avenue Duane Reade location to shop The Duane Reader.

As always there are always a few things to pick up at Duane Reade.

I had Mother’s Day on my mind and wanted to pick up a few cards while I was there.

I also had summer on my mind. With all the sunny weather lately and the fact that location had four display cases of ice cream, I started thinking about having an ice cream soda. The Duane Reader had so much ice cream on sale!

It was the perfect idea because in another aisle I spotted Coke glasses to make the ice cream float! Wasn’t going to have a Coke float though. I wanted a root beer float.

I got that idea in my head because my sister is a big fan of Purple Cows. Every time we go to a diner in my neighborhood, she orders one.

I headed over to Fandango which allows me to buy tickets in advance at one of the movie theaters in my neighborhood.

I love the ease of using Fandango. It lets you watch trailers, read movie reviews from other users and buy tickets without having to wait in line and risk hearing the show is sold out. I didn’t want to have to wait to see Nick Fury bringing together The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki.

I got my tickets to see The Avengers — which is PG 13 — and went to see what will probably be one of the most fun movies of the summer. And summer hasn’t even started yet!

If you haven’t seen The Avengers yet, find a babysitter and go. It is true summer blockbuster fun! And don’t forget to stay at the end for the usual after the credits sneak peek of the next Marvel movie. I give this movie 4 out of 5 couches only because I don’t know if you can cut a couch in half. Or I’d give it 4 1/2 couches.

Trust me, you won’t be disappointed watching the talented cast of characters played by Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye).

Since Natalie was taking the state math exams, I enlisted the help of Harrison and baby Fox to head over to a Duane Reade in our neighborhood to pick up some things highlighted in the Spring issue of The Duane Reader.

Last weekend I picked up a copy of The Duane Reader the day it was released and read it while hanging out on The Great Lawn in Central Park.

So I pretty much knew what I wanted but went ahead and looked at The Duane Reader online to see what my local store had. (Want to go shopping using The Duane Reader? Click here to see what your local store has in stock.)

Harrison was a great help walking through the aisles while I carried the basket and pushed baby Fox in his stroller.

He helped me find the Nice! animal crackers and a few other goodies to take to Luke’s class celebration.

He even picked out a card to give Luke and suggested one for me to give the birthday boy.

I took the opportunity to also pick up some juice and seltzer for Natalie because she’s outgrown drinking Shirley Temples.

Then we headed over to Luke’s school to celebrate.
