Rise and shine! The sun is up! Oh wait… it’s a weekday. In my home that means limited time to do much before the walk to school begins.
Like many households we have a breakfast routine so we can quickly get out the door and on our way to school (or in the case of my toddler to a playdate or enrichment class).
All four of my children are big fans of smoothies so earlier this week I changed up our breakfast routine and made two different smoothies using the Carnation Breakfast Essentials variety pack. I picked it up at Walmart (where a coupon is offered!!)
Two of my children like vanilla and two like chocolate so buying the variety pack made the most sense. I had a feeling it would be a hit with my children. Spoiler alert – I was right!
First up was the smoothie I dubbed Chunky Monkey. In addition to 3/4 cup milk, I put milk chocolate Carnation Breakfast Essentials along with a banana and creamy peanut butter into the blender. Mmm peanut butter.
And then because I have been doing nothing besides daydreaming about getting away, I made a Take Me to the Tropics smoothie using 3/4 cup milk, coconut, mango, banana and French Vanilla Carnation Breakfast Essentials. I really wanted to use tiny bananas that I always see while in the Caribbean but they weren’t at Walmart. I should also share that I didn’t crack a coconut for this recipe… Walmart had Great Value shredded coconut available.
We have a lot of laughs in the morning but not a lot of time to waste but both of these smoothies easily fit into the time I have to get my kids a nutritious breakfast before they head out the door. (Carnation Breakfast Essentials has as much calcium as a 6 oz. cup of yogurt and 13g of protein.)
There were so few ingredients that it was a quick way to get my kids nourished before the school day began! They could have even made these smoothies themselves it was so easy. I may hold off on them making their own smoothies for right now though.
Since the smoothies are portable, they drank the smoothies one day at home and one day enjoyed them on the walk to school.
They’ve already requested more Carnation Breakfast Essentials smoothies next week — with flavor combinations they thought of themselves.
