Last summer we drove through several states to visit friends and family and to explore different family friendly destinations as part of our summer vacation. We didn’t have a checklist of what we wanted to see or do and in many cases the destination was decided on minutes before we got into the car.

This summer I’ve decided to make a general list of things we’d like to see or do before the summer is over. I’d also like us to experience a different family friendly travel destination by plane, train, car, boat and bus this summer.  Last year it was all about summer road trips but this summer we should be a little more creative with our means of transportation.

Sure, some of the things listed have been done during the year but I want to make sure they are still accomplished during the summer. I’m really looking forward to checking off each of these fun family activities from our Summer 2009 Family Fun Check List -

1. Watch a free flick at a movie night in a public park
2. Go to free or discounted movie day and the movie theater
3. Create ice cream sundaes using ice cream we’ve made and named
4. Splash around at the beach
5. Run through the sprinklers
6. Fly a kite
7. Watch a baseball game
8. Take a dip in a swimming pool
9. Dance under the stars
10. Go on rides and play games at an amusement park
11. Visit some exotic animals at the zoo
12.  See some fish and other sea life at the quarium
13. Learn about something new at the children’s museum
14. Explore a park we’ve never visited
15. Eat ice cream from the ice cream truck
16. Go to story hour or movie hour at the library
17. Have a homemade pizza and dessert night
18. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in a park
19. Plan a picnic complete with blanket and after picnic activities
20. Visit a garden or plant some flowers or something edible
21. Take a ferry or water taxi
22. Create a storybook about one of our summer days
23. Host a sleepover for cousins Elena and Patrick
24. Eat cotton candy, funnel cake and another summer treat
25. Go to a barbecue
26. Visit the farmer’s market
27. Take a visitor’s tour of a well known attraction
28. Bike or scooter around a destination
29. Walk through a street fair
